alma-nac propose to create a network of spaces for artists, makers and crafts people to practice and teach in Waterloo as a reaction to the loss of spaces for this type of activity relating to high land value. As well as linking with local institutions and increasing the density of occupancy in existing buildings, our research explored three tactics to achieve the above.
- Urban Dentistry - the use of left over spaces to create a network of small artist spaces
- Working with Local authorities to identify sites that could incorporate artist spaces
- Proposing amendment to policy to encourage new buildings to include artist space provision.
